In March 2014, the Canadian Travel Industry witnessed a transformative moment as three seasoned professionals joined forces to redefine the landscape of host agencies. Flemming Friisdahl, a former executive at a prominent tour operator, Penny Martin, hailing from another successful host agency, and Rhonda Stanley, with extensive experience in retail travel management, recognized the untapped potential of travel agents.
Their shared vision was crystal clear — to empower travel agents, allowing them to shape their businesses on their terms and unlock maximum earning potential. This vision took form with the introduction of three distinct supplier commission tiers: Preferred, Approved, and Others. Setting a new standard, they made a groundbreaking move by sharing their backend deals, a unique offering unprecedented in the host agency landscape. In addition to this, the trio envisioned providing unrestricted access to innovative tools, abundant resources, and, most importantly, MORE™ dedicated and personable support at every stage. The ultimate goal was to enable travel agents to focus entirely on their core competency: selling travel experiences and achieving resounding success.
Thus, The Travel Agent Next Door was born. Over the next decade, it emerged into Canada's most successful host agency, offering inspiration, success and support to over 1,400+ agent partners, alongside top-tier supplier partners, and a dedicated team of support staff. This collective success, they believe, is achieved through creating a win-win-win scenario for agent partners, supplier partners, and The Travel Agent Next Door team, ultimately benefiting more than 500,000 travel consumers across Canada.
